4. Chill

Keep your food at safe temperatures:

  • Meat, fish, vegetables, poultry and dairy products are meant to be kept chilled so keep this kind of food in refrigerator at 5 0C as soon as possible after you purchased them.
  • Put cooked food in refrigerator within 2 hours after you cooked them.

The ischiocavernosus and bulbospongiosus muscles also compress the veins of the corpora cavernosa, limiting the venous drainage of blood. Currently there is no specific treatment or cure for Ebola, only supportive symptomatic treatment can be given to the patient according to the symptoms. This including the painkiller medicines, initiation of IV fluid replacement, administration of supplemental oxygen and initiation of inotropic support to maintain blood pressure. All these measures make the patient comfortable and improve the chance of patient’s survival but cannot cure the illness completely.

However there are some experimental medicines tried over the infected cases which show effective results. The medicines were mostly the blood serums (having antibodies) from animal exposed to and survived Ebola.

Although Ebola virus was first appeared in 1976 in Democratic Republic of Congo, current outbreak of disease is most intense and widespread, infected 14, 413 persons mostly from countries of West Africa including Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia with additional cases reported in Senegal, Nigeria and reached to Spain, Mali and United States Mali. Among these 14, 413 victims of Ebola disease, half are died due to complication of the disease.

07. Ebola in America

Ebola is now not only limited to the Central or West Africa. Its roots reached to America and the first case reported in August 2nd, 2014 where a 33 year old doctor Kent Brantley returned back to America from Liberia infected with Ebola. Luckily the case was treated successfully, survived the disease and released virus free.

As most of people think and reflected in Hollywood movies, many of the diseases were thought to be results of secret research experiments by some “Bad Doctors” or Government agencies to use them as biological weapons, there is an incident happened in Proton down Lab for applied Microbiology in England on 5th November, 1976 where during research on Ebola virus, a researches pricked his thumb with contaminated needle. Are you about to travel to an Ebola suspected region? First let go through the preventive measures or guidelines issue by the government. There is a strict screening process which you have to face if you were in the Ebola suspected region and returned back to your country. If you are positive with the symptoms of Ebola, you may be put in isolation (Quarantine) from other for several days till you get free from virus. This might not help you but may prevent others in your country to get infected with Ebola.

  • Try to cover much of your skin by wearing loose-fitting, light colored clothing (as dark color especially black and blue attract mosquito) during day time or when going outdoor, to protect from mosquito bit.
  • Don’t wear half sleeves shirts or tights as mosquito can bit through tight fitting clothes.
  • Wearing shoes (boots) with socks is ideal than wearing sandals or open shoes

  • Use a good mosquito repellent (those containing Picaridin or DEET are thought to be best) on the exposed areas of your skin including hands & feet, cuff & collars to keep away the Aedes aegypti (Vector of Dengue).
  • If you don’t want to wear mosquito repellent all the day, apply it at least in dawn and dusk.
  • Note: Use these repellent in infants and babies with caution and should not be used in child under two months of age.
  • A traditional way to get rid of mosquito and keep them away from you is to keep Ocimum tenuiflorum or tulsi plant in the room. Tulsi plant is a natural mosquito repellent.

  • Use a good mosquito killer coil, mat or plug-in devices containing liquid insecticide to kill mosquito. Application of liquid insecticide spray directly on the mosquito kill mosquito effectively. Place mosquito coil or apply spray neat the entrance to the room or home such as doors or windows.

  • Although the Aedes aegypti is more active during day time, but still sleeping under mosquito bed net helps to avoid mosquito bit at dawn.
  • Make sure that screens or net over the doors and window are in good conditions and have no hole or space to let mosquito enter the room.

06. Vector Control! Just Eliminate the Mosquito form Surrounding

  • Vector means the Dengue transmitting mosquito (Aedes aegypti). This mosquito breeds in stagnant water standing in water storage containers, vases, bowels, old tyres. Don’t let the water stand in these places. Try to keep your environment clean and dry.
  • Frequently changes the water in vases, bowels and tanks. Cover water containers, bamboo pole holders, cans and buckets as these all are potential sites for dengue mosquito breeding.
  • Stagnant water, if not possible to cover or dry, pour kerosene oil to make a thin layer over water prevent the mosquito breeding.
  • In swimming pools or larger water tanks which cannot be cover or put kerosene oil in, the vector control can be achieved using Guppy fish (a small mosquito eating fish). Just release some Guppy fishes into the tank and they will eat the dengue mosquito larva.

  • Infected person can be a source of dengue act as a reservoir from where the mosquito can take the germs (dengue virus) and transmit it to you. If (unfortunately) one of your family members is Dengue positive, limit him/her to a separate room and strictly prevent the infected person from mosquito bit as the patient can transmit the virus to mosquito which can be then transmitted to anyone else in the family.
